Location: Wild Mountain Clinical Counselling, Penticton, BC

Overview: Wild Mountain Clinical Counselling is a dedicated group practice committed to serving as a beacon of hope and healing within Penticton and surrounding communities. Our mission focuses on delivering accessible, inclusive, and high-quality clinical counseling services to individuals, partners, families, and groups. We offer a range of support options, including both in-person and virtual services (via phone and video), to diverse populations with various life challenges and mental health concerns.

Christel Mitchell, founder of Wild Mountain Clinical Counselling, is a dynamic and experienced practicing Registered Clinical Counsellor with over five years of extensive experience dedicated to empowering clients in managing their lives. With a client-centered approach and the use of varying modalities and their strategies, Christel supports clients with discovering their personal strengths and capabilities, enhancing their overall well-being, building resilience, and developing effective problem-solving skills. She is deeply committed to promoting mental health awareness and advocating for the needs of her clients to support their movement towards change.

Christel values lifelong learning and actively seeks to remain current with the latest psychological theories and practices, ensuring the highest quality of service is provided to each individual she works with. Her passion for helping others is at the heart of her practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intake assessments and client interviews.
  • Learn to develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Support clients in setting and achieving therapeutic goals.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in accordance with BCACC’s standards of Clinical Practice Documentation and Record Keeping.
  • Participate in regular supervision meetings, monthly group peer consultation, bi-monthly counsellor socials, and any offered and relevant training sessions.
  • Adopt a collaborative approach to ensure comprehensive care for clients.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop practical counselling skills and techniques within a private-sector environment.
  • Gain insights into the therapeutic process and client dynamics.
  • Learn to work with diverse populations, and various life challenges and mental health concerns.
  • Develop an understanding of the administrative tasks and ethical principles applicable to counselling.
  • Enhance communication, interpersonal, and professional skills.

Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in a graduate program in counselling, social work, psychology, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of counselling theories and practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with clients and the Wild Mountain Clinical Counselling team.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and ethical practices in counselling.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Supervision: Counselling interns will receive regular supervision from and discuss cases to support professional development with Christel Mitchell, practicing clinical counsellor and founder of Wild Mountain Clinical Counselling. Furthermore, counselling interns will have the opportunity to participate in monthly group peer consultation meetings, bi-monthly counsellor socials to foster collaboration, offered trainings, and informal discussions with the Wild Mountain Clinical Counselling team.
