Welcome!
At Wild Mountain Clinical Counselling, we believe that everyone deserves access to counselling services. To support this vision, we are proud to offer a no-cost counselling program as part of our commitment to making mental health services more accessible to members of our community and surrounding areas. This initiative is driven by our goal to help remove financial barriers that can prevent individuals from receiving immediate, high-quality counselling services when it’s needed the most.
Wild Mountain Clinical Counselling no-cost counselling services is provided by master’s level practicum students. As part of their educational experience, these students are required to provide counselling under the supervision of an experienced clinical counsellor, which supports their learning and helps develop their skills. At Wild Mountain Clinical Counselling, Christel Mitchell, a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, will provide supervision. Christel is highly educated, with many years of experience dedicated to supporting individuals facing life challenges, mental health concerns, problematic use of substances, and trauma. This initiative aims to make quality mental health support accessible to individuals in our community, while giving practicum students valuable hands-on experience.
To be eligible for Wild Mountain Clinical Counselling’s no-cost counselling services, you should be experiencing financial challenges that make affording counselling difficult, not currently be accessing other counselling support, not qualify for our other funding options, or have health benefits that cover the cost of counselling.

Email: [email protected]
2. Initial Contact:
When you connect with Wild Mountain Clinical Counselling, the clinic manager or office administrator will assist you by answering any questions you may have and helping you determine whether the no-cost counselling program is suitable for you. They will collect your name, phone number, and email address, and schedule your intake session.

3. Intake Session:
During your intake session, the practicum student will begin by outlining the process of Wild Mountain Clinical Counselling’s No-Cost Counselling Program, and review with you their Professional Disclosure Statement, explaining confidentiality and its limits. They will also discuss the supervisor’s responsibilities and their role in overseeing the practicum student’s practice, and obtain any necessary consents. Additionally, the student will gather information about your immediate concerns and current life challenges, as well as essential information about your personal and clinical history. Together, you will also discuss and explore your counselling goals and needs.
4. Evaluation:
After the intake session, it is crucial for the practicum student and their supervisor to meet and evaluate whether they can adequately support you in achieving your counselling goals and meeting your needs. This discussion ensures that the practicum student has the necessary skills and resources to assist you effectively. It also allows for an assessment of how best to tailor the therapeutic approach to your unique circumstances. By ensuring a good fit between you and the practicum student’s capabilities, the process enhances the likelihood of positive outcomes in your counselling journey.
If you are identified as eligible for Wild Mountain Clinical Counselling’s no-cost counselling services, and the evaluation determines that the practicum student and their supervisor can adequately support you in achieving your counselling goals and meeting your needs, you will be awarded 10 free counselling sessions. Please note that if you miss a scheduled session or cancel with less than 24 business hours’ notice, you will no longer be eligible to participate in the program. This policy helps ensure that the funding used to support this no-cost initiative is used effectively and benefits those in need.
5. Follow-Up:
After the evaluation, if the practicum student and their supervisor believe they can effectively support you, they will contact you to assist with your booking needs. However, if they determine that they cannot adequately meet your needs, they will still reach out to help you find another counsellor who is better suited to your situation.
Note: While this process may appear lengthy, it is designed to ensure that you receive the most suitable support for your counselling journey. Simultaneously, it provides the practicum student with invaluable experience that enhances their skills and competencies.
