For many of us, trauma isn’t just something we remember—it’s something we carry. It can live in the body as tightness, fatigue, restlessness, or even chronic pain. That’s where somatic therapy comes in, and more specifically, the healing power of rhythm and movement.
Somatic therapy focuses on the connection between the mind and body, helping clients tune into their physical sensations as a way to process emotional pain. Rhythmic movement—like swaying, dancing, walking, or even gentle rocking—can be a powerful tool for grounding the nervous system and releasing stored tension.
Why rhythm? Because the body recognizes and responds to patterns. Whether it’s the steady beat of your footsteps on a trail or the gentle rocking of your hips in a yoga pose, rhythm helps signal safety to the nervous system. It can also reconnect us to the present moment, making space for healing without having to “talk through” every memory.
In sessions at Wild Mountain Counselling, we may incorporate mindful movement or guide you in exploring rhythmic exercises that feel safe and supportive. You don’t need to be a dancer or an athlete—just willing to be curious about your body’s wisdom.
Movement is medicine. And in the right therapeutic space, it can unlock new pathways to feeling whole again.
