Melissa Selka, C.C.C., R.C.C.
Clinical Counsellor
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with a Master of Counselling degree from Gonzaga University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus. My approach to counselling is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and respect, and I strive to create a space where clients feel safe, heard, and supported just as they are.
My counselling experience includes working with non-profit organizations dedicated to supporting individuals within the community. I have primarily worked with youth aged 12 to 24 and also have experience supporting adults through a variety of life challenges. I am deeply committed to ongoing professional development and continuously seek opportunities to expand my knowledge and enhance my skills, ensuring that my work remains thoughtful and responsive to each client’s unique needs.
As a first-generation Canadian with family roots in Germany, I value both my cultural heritage and the life I have built here in Canada. This lived experience has shaped my appreciation for identity, belonging, and the complexity of navigating multiple worlds—insights that inform my work as a counsellor.
Outside of the counselling space, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, listening to podcasts, and being outdoors.
My counselling practice is grounded in values of respect, collaboration, and genuine care. I strive to create a therapeutic space where clients feel safe, valued, and accepted, and where their experiences are met with understanding. I believe that meaningful change begins when people feel truly seen and heard.
I draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches, including Reality Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. My approach is rooted primarily in Reality Therapy, which focuses on identifying behavioural and emotional patterns and empowering clients to make choices that align with the lives they want to create. Together, we explore what is working, what feels stuck, and what steps may help move things forward in a way that feels
manageable and authentic. In 2026, I will begin training in Synergetic Play Therapy and look forward to integrating this approach into my practice to further support children and families.
While counselling can be a challenging journey at times, it is not one you have to take alone. I believe that every person has the capacity for growth and change, and that with the right support, individuals can become the version of themselves they want to be. My role is to walk alongside you, offering guidance, tools, and encouragement as you move toward greater clarity, connection, and well-being
